https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/bvparishat I would urge the Sanskrit enthusiasts, students and teachers to join this Google group called Bharatiya Vidvat Parishad - there are over 500 Sanskrit scholars (out of the total 1700 members) who are actively participating and answering questions on Sanskrit, Shastra, Vedanta, etc. Those who are serious about Sastra knowledge should join this group. After joining this group, I also recommend people to search the past Q&A database before asking questions and /or posting anything. I also request not to post Junk forwards /promotional material /pravachan links /basic discourse stuff /etc... Note that, one can search and read the Q&A without joining. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/bvparishat

Women's day..

Women's day.. Though I realized late.. Women's day is the day we remember and praise her for her very nature , existence, love and compassion. Don't laugh.. let's wish our godess Laxmi sarasvathi and Durga also a happy women's day. Lets take time to wish her the same. :)

Dreams....

Dreams.... We know dviata , advaita ..but we also know there's something called visista advaita which is difficult to comprehend. Existence of dvaita and advaita at the same time. There's an apology which I generally think while thinking of dvaita and advaita. Tell me where does vishita advaita fit in in this analogy. Let's say you are dreaming of few characters in your sleep. Now the character in dream doesn't know that he's being dreamed. That's the plane where we all live. Vishnu dreams of this universe but we all think that there is a separate entity or dvaita. Yogis who realised god are the ones who know that they are being dreamed. And the moment he realizes he doesn't care about this world coz he understood that this is all maaya. That's why we see no person like Ramana maharshi , ramakrisna paramahamsa who have never gone back to material world. He just shuns his interests in the material world. Untill now I had this example to explain my friends...

Sanatana Dharama - I like this explanation

Sanatana Dharama - I like this explanation True knowledge of whatever sort was necessarily part of the fundamental truth of the Veda (or, for Buddhists and Jains, of their own sacred principles). Again, it would be misleading to characterize Indian thought simply as “static” or “timeless.” It changed over time to accommodate new ideas and new lines of argument, but innovations were generally worked into existing traditions rather than flaunted as revolutionary novelties. - Prof. Kim Plofker, Mathematics in India. http://nraonid.blogspot.com/2012/12/22-december-national-mathematics-day.html

Shiva smiles at me !

Shiva smiles at me ! At times I smile at myself and you would too after reading this post. I'm just 33yrs and seeing initial stages of bald hair, morning while my routine pooja I looked Shiva's pic and said to him, you are my dad and see you have huge hair. They say its dense and black. You are timeless entity and still have such a hair. Look at me and started developing baldness and asked what's this :) . Dad is having nice dense and black hair and son isn't. He just smiled at me as always. Felt funny my myself at my thoughts :)

How to spell namah shivay mantra ?

How to spell namah shivay mantra ? Actually the word namah actually ends with visarga ( we should just spell nama and leave the air out which produces namah sound) hence the air should go out, so if we say om namah shivay .. it would need 2 breaths.. isn't it so ? Else we can say om shivay namah ! This would complete in 1 breath. What is correct or preferred way ?

Came across this beautiful picture of shiva kutumbam.

Does Rama had a sister ??

Does Rama had a sister ?? I recently came across a discourse where it was told that Rama had a sister Shaanta and her husband was risha sringara . I never read it that in valmiki Ramayana. Does any other scriptures talk about it ? Of course you may ask how it matters now.. But just curious..

Can anyone explain the inner meaning of "aadi anantha sesha " ??

Can anyone explain the inner meaning of "aadi anantha sesha " ?? If I break it w.r.t words it would mean aadi ->starting/beginning, Anantha-> infinite Sesha-> reminder / remaining / denominator Can anyone help me understand why the serpent on which vishnu sleeps is called aadi anantha sesha ??
