Somnath is the celebrated city of India, situated on the shore of the sea, and washed by its waves.

Somnath is the celebrated city of India, situated on the shore of the sea, and washed by its waves. Among the wonders of that place was the temple in which was placed the idol called Somnat. This idol was in the middle of the temple without anything to support it from below, or to suspend it from above. It was held in the highest honour among the Hindus, and whoever beheld it floating in the air was struck with amazement, whether he was a Musulman or an infidel. The Hindus used to go on pilgrimage to it whenever there was an eclipse of the moon, and would then assemble there to the number of more than a hundred thousand. Zakariya says that everything of the most precious was brought there as offerings, and the temple was endowed with more than ten thousand villages. There is a river—the Ganges, which is held sacred between which and Somnat the distance is two hundred parasangs. They used to bring the water of this river to Somnat every day, and wash the temple with it. A thousand Brahm

Is Diwali just about bursting crackers and feasting on sweets

Is Diwali just about bursting crackers and feasting on sweets ? It is enough to just light a Diya (Lamp) outside ? How about lighting the lamp within each one of us ? Who is going to come and light the lamp within us ? Let us Explore the deep Spiritual meaning behind celebrating "Diwali" "Deepavali". What we get from celebrating any festival is dependent on at what level (Spiritually) we celebrate it. Everyone says this festival is about our transition from darkness (Ignorance) to Light (Knowledge). Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya. It all sounds good but how does one go through this transformation ? What are we referring to when we use words like Light / Knowlegde etc... Here you can find answers to these question - Listen to this Vedic Discourse - www.jnyana.org/diwali http://www.jnyana.org/diwali Dhanyosmi Akshay http://www.jnyana.org/diwali

Does Rama had a sister ??

Does Rama had a sister ?? I recently came across a discourse where it was told that Rama had a sister Shaanta and her husband was risha sringara . I never read it that in valmiki Ramayana. Does any other scriptures talk about it ? Of course you may ask how it matters now.. But just curious..

Can anyone explain the inner meaning of "aadi anantha sesha " ??

Can anyone explain the inner meaning of "aadi anantha sesha " ?? If I break it w.r.t words it would mean aadi ->starting/beginning, Anantha-> infinite Sesha-> reminder / remaining / denominator Can anyone help me understand why the serpent on which vishnu sleeps is called aadi anantha sesha ??
