Saama Veda Saama veda is the third Veda (of the 4 Vedas Rk, Yajush, Saama, Atharva) - these classifications are applicable only in Kali Yuga or the Kali era which started about 5117 years back - from the day of Sri. Krishna left the body.  There were over 24 Shakhaas (shakhaa does not mean branch but means recension whenever it is referred with respect to Veda) were there for Saama veda as per Pundits. However we have got now only 3 Shakhaas  - Kautuma, Jaimineeya and Ranayaneeya. सहस्रवर्त्मा सामवेदः - Meaning 1000 methods are there for singing Saama ganam.
