From the first dhyana sloka geetham in Raga Naataa, I just couldn't stop thanking our ancestors for gifting us such अमूल्यशास्त्रम् and also making it a कला (सार्वजनिकत्वम् - making it available to everybody). In addition how #sangeet  is a saadhanam for Moksha saadhanaa is also explained. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXeND_eFd8s#t=138

Now I am happy to post his son's interview Sriman. Dr. K. Ramasubramaniyan (Prof., IIT Mumbai). Purana - Pura (old) api (also) Navam (new) - 3 things are witnessed by Acharyas with respect to Purana

Purana - Pura (old) api (also) Navam (new) - 3 things are witnessed by Acharyas with respect to Purana 1. Recensions (versions) 2. Interpolations (some sloka or parts are added) 3. Continuously updated - Bhavishyat Purana was even updated till 1000 years back Purana like Bhagavata, Vishnu, Agni, Vayu, Shiva, Skaanda are very old and Purana like Bhavishyat are new. These are based on the updations and not on when they were started. Staring time of Purana can't be established as Purana is very old and also new. It is not Itihasa [iti - like this, iha - here (or ha - indeed), aasa - happened] means history. This is the reason why Purana is not taken as a Pramana (evidence) in our shastra /jnana parampara. What are the Pramana(s): Veda or Shruti  - All Aastika shastra traditions accept shruti pramana.  In the past one is considered as Aastika only if that person accepts Vedas as Pramana. Now Aastika means a God believer - this is actually wrong notion. 1. Pratyaksha (Sensory perception...

Saama Veda

Saama Veda Saama veda is the third Veda (of the 4 Vedas Rk, Yajush, Saama, Atharva) - these classifications are applicable only in Kali Yuga or the Kali era which started about 5117 years back - from the day of Sri. Krishna left the body.  There were over 24 Shakhaas (shakhaa does not mean branch but means recension whenever it is referred with respect to Veda) were there for Saama veda as per Pundits. However we have got now only 3 Shakhaas  - Kautuma, Jaimineeya and Ranayaneeya. सहस्रवर्त्मा सामवेदः - Meaning 1000 methods are there for singing Saama ganam. One of the method is as per the Veda-Acharya who explains in this video The person reciting Saama gaana is referred to as सामगः [Saamaga - means a singer of Saaman (stem) or Saama (word)]. The ancient Shaman priests or nature worshipers of Central Asia and Russia and Incas, Mayans are descendants of Vedic Saamaga pandits  or learnt from Saamaga pandits - read about Shaman elsewhere and how they are able to communicate with Spirits ...

शासनात् त्राणात् शास्त्रम् । That which controls us from pitfalls, through educating us about the universal rules and as a result protects us is shastra - this is Vyakarana definition of shastra. The tattva definition of shastra is चतुर्वर्गफलप्रदायकं शास्त्रम् उच्यते - that which gives us the fruit of chaturvarga. Chaturvarga means Dharma-Artha-Kaama-Moksha. Shastra gives us regulated methods of fulfilling our Kaama (desires) through Artha (Means) with Dharma (Meta Rules based on Universal Order) as the foundation and ultimately attain Moksha or Yoga (Liberation) not just through one but multiple paths. How to use a particular path for Moksha is the subject of Shastra. One can choose a path that is most suitable based on one's disposition. The path of Karma, Saankhya, Music, Performing arts, and even Vaak (speech) etc. can be used for this. Shastra gives a methodical step by step path from Dharma first and to finally Yoga or Moksha ultimately. Paatanjala Ashtanga yoga of Bhagavan ...

मीमांसा Mimaamsa

मीमांसा Mimaamsa Mimaamsa can be termed as a deep longing (actually need) to know a thing in totality. Two important Mimaamsa texts we have. One deals with dharma (धर्मन्) and the other deals with brahma (ब्रह्म - the absolute /ultimate all pervading oneness and not ब्रह्मा - the creating part of Godhood as mentioned in Puranas). These mimamsa texts are called as "Poorva mimaamsa" (first) given to us by Maharishi Jaimini  and "Uttara mimaamsa" (later). Uttara mimaasa is also called as "Brahma sutra" given to us by Maharishi Baadarayana. From a root /stem /suffix meaning, the word mimaamsa means - मातुम् इच्छा = मीमांसा  - the root "मा" stands for measuring as well as understanding. Thus मातुम् इच्छा means ज्ञातुम् इच्छा which is also termed as जिज्ञासा (inquisitiveness - actually inquiry is a better word) a deep longing (need) to understand. Understand what ? - the purpose of life - What is life at large. In Sanskrit the word icchaa (इच्छा) stand...

Some concepts that we need to understand before we embark on the study of Vedas.

Some concepts that we need to understand before we embark on the study of Vedas. Vivakshaa:- speaker's intention. Normally in communications we try to understand the speaker's intention - this gets communicated through verbal as well as non-verbal means. Thus through the non-verbal part - tone, gesture, body movements, etc. we could understand the verbal part. This is possible if both the listener and the speaker are present in the same time or place or else there is a video recording of the communication. Now if the speaker has no other intention other than just the communication of a natural /supernatural phenomenon - meaning there is nothing extra, not even a tiny bit of interpretation by the speaker, then the message itself is the truth. (Imagine watching a cricket match without any commentary and that too the video comes only from the stump vision camera, no replay etc.). The Vedic Rishis have just recorded what they have seen in their deep meditation. There is no Vivaksha...
