Hindus mostly cremate the dead bodies. But the bodies of a Yogi or Sanyaasi is either buried or drowned in river. My question is, if this is the practice in case of Sanyaasis or Yogis, then why in the Ishavasya Upanishad, the last 2 verses call upon Agni to burn the body?

“Don’t we conserve a rare, old painting or sculpture?

“Don’t we conserve a rare, old painting or sculpture? This is a live language…and rich cultural heritage which might become the casualty of neglect just as great civilisations like Hampi, the art of Ajanta and temples of Konark got buried in oblivion. It was up to the British to discover them later. Sanskrit, along with its culture, philosophy and science might become similarly extinct. On the other hand, there is so much yet to discover through Sanskrit." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/indianews/article-3038926/Sanskrit-fever-grips-Germany-14-universities-teaching-India-s-ancient-language-struggle-meet-demand-students-clamour-courses.html#ixzz3XLeFoPn9

I have heard that the Manu Smriti mentions different treatment for different castes.

I have heard that the Manu Smriti mentions different treatment for different castes. Manu Smriti seems to be more of a code of social conduct. I want to know if there is any religious or Vedic permission to carry on caste based discriminations. What are the religious belief systems in today's Hindu society which encourage casteism? Reading Bhagavad Gita, Ashtavakra Gita and couple of Upanishads didn't help me find any such discriminations.. infact what i found was the opposite. Exclude social majoritarian dominance, politics and reservation system form discussion. Let the focus be on scriptures and religious customs.

Thanks to Ramanujan’s effort, one can now access Sastras through the computer. Ramanujan spent seven years putting the contents of the Sastras into a database. He culled 30,000 sutras from all the Sastras, classified the different aspects of the Sastras, and gave his compendium the name, Sakala Sastra Sutra Kosa.  Ramanujan has developed DESIKA, a comprehensive package for generating and analysing Sanskrit words. #sansrkit   #indiaplus   http://www.thehindu.com/features/friday-review/access-the-sastras-through-the-computer/article6986130.ece

To learn and be fluent in a language, one must converse in it on a daily basis at least in the beginning.

To learn and be fluent in a language, one must converse in it on a daily basis at least in the beginning. How can we find sanskrit speakers or learners to converse as a means of practice to improve our understanding of the language? Is there an online community anywhere on G+  or elsewhere? Or can we ourselves form a group of learners/speakers to help each other? It would be of great service! Thanks! भवान यथा परिवर्तनं जगते इच्छति, तथा परिवर्तनं स्वयम् भवतु। Is it close to the meaning of what Gandhiji said once?

There are many practices in our culture which have proven health and environmental benefits; but explaining science behind almost every practice is not only foolishness but laughable also. Is the fact that the rituals and traditions i follow foster bonhomie in society and gives a chance to introspect rising above our ego, not good enough to follow them!? We don't have to keep attaching intellectual-sounding gibberish logics to justify our rituals. At a time when our culture was under threat, the fabric was revitalised by the scholars of Vedas and Vedanta like Sri Adi Shankaracharya, Sri Madhvacharya, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo Ghosh to name a few from different times.  But today, it seems that the "protector" tag is hijacked/mis-used by the politically motivated, ill-informed and worse-knowledge-ed people. Someone who seems to have never went through any of our scriptures. The need of the time is the emergence of an articulate, credible, and pr...

Where in the Vedas is “Vedic mathematics” to be found? Nowhere.

Where in the Vedas is “Vedic mathematics” to be found? Nowhere. Vedic mathematics has no relation whatsoever to the Vedas. It actually originates from a book misleadingly titled Vedic Mathematics by Bharati Krishna Tirtha. The book admits on its first page that its title is misleading and that the (elementary arithmetic) algorithms expounded in the book have nothing to do with the Vedas. Please go through the article and express your views on this very current issue.  Krishnamurthi CG      Anantha Narayanan    http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/nothing-vedic-in-vedic-maths/article6373689.ece

Which sankrit grammar book would you suggest for a learner?

Which sankrit grammar book would you suggest for a learner? Better if it is available online for sale. I have searched the book market of my locality and it has no good sanskrit grammar book. I am learning sanskrit online from Agniveer: http://agniveer.com/learn-sanskrit-month-1/ But it is not systematic and is mainly oriented for spoken purpose which is good but i want a systematic grammar book.
