Saama Veda

Saama Veda

Saama veda is the third Veda (of the 4 Vedas Rk, Yajush, Saama, Atharva) - these classifications are applicable only in Kali Yuga or the Kali era which started about 5117 years back - from the day of Sri. Krishna left the body.

There were over 24 Shakhaas (shakhaa does not mean branch but means recension whenever it is referred with respect to Veda) were there for Saama veda as per Pundits. However we have got now only 3 Shakhaas  - Kautuma, Jaimineeya and Ranayaneeya.

सहस्रवर्त्मा सामवेदः - Meaning 1000 methods are there for singing Saama ganam. One of the method is as per the Veda-Acharya who explains in this video

The person reciting Saama gaana is referred to as सामगः [Saamaga - means a singer of Saaman (stem) or Saama (word)]. The ancient Shaman priests or nature worshipers of Central Asia and Russia and Incas, Mayans are descendants of Vedic Saamaga pandits  or learnt from Saamaga pandits - read about Shaman elsewhere and how they are able to communicate with Spirits etc. (what we call as Devataas, are called as spirits by Shaman, Incas, Mayans, etc.)

When a Saamaga sits in a Vedic Yajna, he is called as Utgaataa (literally means a high-pitched singer)

This link to the Video documentary captures more details of Saama veda and one of its Shakhaa - Ranayaneeya

This entire Video is in Samskritam - if you have any doubts on the meaning of the conversation - pl. raise it with me with the time stamp. If you have doubt in the Veda mantra - then raise it with a shaastri (वेदभाष्यशास्त्रज्ञः) #Samaveda   #Sanskrit   #Shastra

  1. If you can't understand Samskrit then you may go directly to 9.07 to listen to Gayatri mantra in Ranayaneeya Saama Gaanam.
