How to spell namah shivay mantra ?
How to spell namah shivay mantra ?
Actually the word namah actually ends with visarga ( we should just spell nama and leave the air out which produces namah sound) hence the air should go out, so if we say om namah shivay .. it would need 2 breaths.. isn't it so ?
Else we can say om shivay namah ! This would complete in 1 breath.
What is correct or preferred way ?

It wouldn't need 2 breaths, just one breath. One should close the flow of air only for om. Nama:shivaya should be one continuous sound.
ReplyDeleteMy humble opinion
ॐ नमः शिवाय
ReplyDeleteom (stop breathing from lips) namah (stop breathing from throat) sivāya
ReplyDeleteCristi Andrei not at throat, but in mouth. Between tongue and palate (upper roof of mouth). There too the gap should not close, there should be a continuous flow of sound through a small gap.
ReplyDeleteYes spell it as na-ma- and little h.
ReplyDeleteThe h sound is a little difficult at ending specially for tamil speakers since it does not need it in words so does mahaprana letters of kha, gha, chha etc using it most of the time, and it is supposed to spell h as ga or ka for convience in case of loan words. But i have heard my tamil friends spell ha without problem too. Once you can spell h you can spell visarga too
The pronunciation of visarga is much like h you have to just echo to last sound with breath.
Visarga mean exhaling air out after that sound.
Om is as Au-m
Nama: as na-ma-little exhalation
SivAya as shi vaa ya.
Here Sh is talavya means sound of s produced through talu, talu is where the pallate lies, you have to touch toungue with palate as you do for ca (as tea*ch*er) , ja and exhale air - it is Ushma vyanjan since you have to exhale air for its pronunciation.
Harsva e Shi , vaa , and ya.
ॐ नमःशिवाय
