Few peoples are trying to built a Gurukool at my place in which they are claming to teach Vedas and even modern science....Those who have read all Vedas Please reply how trusty and how this is going to help the Kids..
What are the faculty credentials?
ReplyDeleteVedic teaching and learning are on the decline. It is worth trying against all odds. Most kids find it difficult to handle both. But given the reluctance of the parents there is no other way to get students.
ReplyDeleteTamil Nadu patashala method.
ReplyDelete1). The Teacher has to be Ghanapaati (in veda you have Samhita pata, then Padapata, then Krama pata, Jata pata, and finally the Ghana pata. This person should've completed Ghana can only be a Acharya
2). The patashala must be a residential gurukula. During Veda pata, the pupils need to be taught by the Guru twice a day, 2 times recitation checking by the guru, many times checking by Sr. students. There should be enough time for practice. So the students should stay there and learn and also follow the achara of a Vaidika.
3). The students should also perform all the daily rituals such as sandhyavandana, samitadhana, etc. 3 times a day.
4). In addition students are also taught Vishnu sahasranama, Lalita sahasranama, Bhagavadgita, etc. in the patashala
5). In some patashala evenings Ramayana and Sanskrit is also taught.
6). Students join at the age 7 or 8 normally and complete Veda studies (Krama Pata) at the end age 13 or 14. Then few go for another 2-3 years to complete Ghana pata
Note: Very few go for shastra studies - we actually need people who are Vedic scholars as well as shastra scholars.
The method followed in Tamil nadu Veda Patashala is very old, rigorous and follows the old Veda Gurukula system.
There are shastra patashala in Karnataka - they follow a different method - they give more importance to Shastra.
One must personally visit various patashalas and understand the different methods.
Vedavijnana Gurukula in Bangalore - they follow a different method. Sandeepani also has a different method.
How it helps students in today's context - The help can happen only when the students enter into Shastra. One will become a Vaidika only with Veda - means Prohita. If one learns Pooja vidhi and Agama then one can become a Poojaari.
ReplyDeleteBut being a Poojari or Prohita is not enough to save the shastras - students, after their Vedic studies, should study Sanskrit and then start the shastra studies in Patashala /Gurukula. (There should also be a method for other Sanskrit students (non-Vedic) to enter into Shastra studies after completing Sanskrit.)
Not every student need to go upto Krama pata. Samhita and pada pata is enough for some those who want to go towards shastras - this depends on the student's interest and also the Achary's opinion. Vedic studies upto Pada pata will take about 4 years.
Then the syllabus of further studies should start with Sanskrit (formal) and subjects like like maths, Computers, and Sahitya, Basic Nyaya, etc.
By the time the student is in the age of 17, he should know Sanskrit, grammar - upto Sandhi and Samasa and the basics of Nyaya. In addition the student should also know Maths (Algebra and Trigonometry), English (to speak and also to read and understand Newspaper), Computer operations upto Word processing, etc.
Then is the time to expose to other shastra like Ganita, Ayurveda, Vastu, Rasayana, etc. - for these things, the syllabus need to be designed accordingly - should also be combined with the contemporary methods and western systems.
www.KSU.ac.in has revised the syllabus and also published books for shastra patashaala students - excellent material and coverage.
Anantha Narayanan Itseems Baba Ramdev is providing funds to setup Gurukool, his aim is to setup in every district...I exactly donot know what credentials for Teachers, il come back my learning more about it but even i am intrested in getting there as a faculty obviously i wont be able 2 teach sanskrit nor Veda but atleast modern science so that they are developed in every aspect..
ReplyDeleteKrishnamurthi CG Thanks alot for you input sir...
ReplyDeleteAnkit Malik which place are we taking about?
ReplyDeleteVasudevan Tirumurti We were looking place in Goa but its hard to find a 15 to 25 acre land which will be donated for such purpose..Me and our fellow companion from RSS liked the idea so searching for a land close to Goa( in Maharastra) we found an old couple hope they donate for this cause...
ReplyDeleteWhy this has to be a donation of a land - collect money from volunteers and buy the land and why Maharashtra? - start in a place where there will be students !. Getting students for Veda patashala is the most difficult. So the patashala should also include shastra teachings and allow non vedic students - but with strict guidelines
ReplyDeleteKrishnamurthi CG i understand your concern but we decided to keep it in maharastra as that place is close to Goa and even we will get few Goan students...and getting students is entirely on us....m definate that there will be many students if we include modern science also in that syllabus and teaching them modern science is entirely our responsibility and m definate they will have a better knowledge of modern science than ppl going to normal schools....I want to learn vedas 1st as i think it is way beyond our modern science as its not developed yet..,is it so? please tell me conclusion of Vedas? does it tell about self realisation that we are nothing but energies?(quantum physics) i have heard Hinduism beleives that matter, energy and consioussness is interchangeble...plz clear my doubts
