Its nearly Vijaya Dasami. On this day, let us try to learn what has been the meaning of sloka in Hanuman Chalisa.

Jug Sahastra Jojan Par Bhanu, Leelyo Taahi Madhur Phal Jaanu
Wiki source gives us this meaning: The Sun is at distance of thousands of miles and it takes eons to reach there. You gulped it, thinking it to be a sweet fruit.

Now I am also seeing various blogs claiming the calculation of distance from Earth to Sun is being described exactly here. Their calculations go as below: Calculation Here:

Jug (Yuga) in Hindu philosophy is the name of an 'era' within a cycle of four ages. These are Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. The length of these yugas is 4800 years + 3600 years + 2400 years + 1200 years for a total of 12,000 years of the demigods. One year of the demigods is equal to 360 years of the human beings. Hence the calculation of Yuga in human years is:

Yuga Demigods Years 1 demigod year = 360 Human Years Human Years
Satya Yuga 4800 360 1728000
Treta Yuga 3600 360 1296000
Dvapara Yuga 2400 360 864000
Kali Yuga 1200 360 432000
Total 12000 4320000

Shashtra – Sanskrit meaning of thousand

Jojan (Yogan) – 1 yogan = 8 miles
And 1 mile = 1.60 kilometers

Hence, the calculation is:

12,000 x 1,000 x 8 = 9,60,00,000 Miles

9,60,00,000 x  1.60 = 15,36,00,000 Kilometers
