  1. It gives a new insight but not everything here makes sense.
Gautam Buddha was against caste system and he existed well before the Guptas.
Caste system was not categorized on the basis of the genetic combination of people. So a people of same caste may have all the combinations of the haps and still the intermixing will continue but definitely not as freely as it would have earlier.

  2. Anantha Narayanan Sunil Yadav  This article is questionable with respect to its theories - we may have 5-6 genetic groups or even more. But that has got nothing to do with Castism or Varna etc. We shouldn't be echoing the Western Indological views here. We need to study that more. Both the PNAS and the interpretations are trying to reestablish the  Aryan Invasion theory in a different route. In Arthashastra (> 300 BCE), Parashara smriti (before 500 BCE), Kaashyapiya Krishi sukti (1st cen CE), Saarnghadhara samhita (8th cen CE), Rajataramgini (11th Cen CE), and many other Kavya texts, Autobiography texts - there are inter-varna marriages mentioned. The people intervarnas are referred to as "SaankaryaaH" (Sankara means mix - not Shankara). These references are conveniently hid by the Western indologists to make it appear that Varna and caste are same and are like straight-jacket type etc. We should also not foolishly echo their view that it was Buddha first opposed Varna (this is now being interpreted as caste) there were many others opposed Varna system and many supported - people for both for and against were from all Varnas.

The mainstream people never bothered because Varna system had nothing to do nothing do with Birth. Can anyone decide at time of birth whether the child will be a Doctor or an Architect or an Administrator?. One becoming a Doctor or an Administrator or anybody is one's own choice and making. Birth does have some influence but is not the major factor.  - Varna is a choice decided at a later stage based on one's own exposure.

In Bhagavad Gita, Varna Saankaryam (mixing) is termed as wrong. But Sri. Krishna himself married Jaambhavati (Daughter of Jambhavan - the King of Bears (actually a jungle dweller)), Bhima married Hidimbi (Rakshasi - mother of Ghatodgaja). If Varna is same as Caste (birth) then this is mixing of Varna certainly is wrong - but it was not. Thus Varna is choice of an individual and it is proved beyond doubt.

In the picture Parasurama is shown as creating a land for Brahmanas - this is depicted with few people with a "Yajnopavita". In the past everybody had to wear "Yajnopavita" including all Varnas. Karna otherwise couldn't have been doing Yajnas. Till Mahabharata Yuddha, including himself everyone believed that he was a "Shudra". Without Yajnopavita no one can do Yajna and Karna did Yajnas thus he must have worn Yajnopavita and without studying Veda and without shraddhaa one can't do Yajna. Everybody were supposed to learn Veda. Shudras were given exemption at a later date, rather than not allowed. This is due to their occupational constraints.

The western divide and rule ideas have become very subtle, we must be vigil.
