In the mantra below, is the grammar correct in the last part?
Shouldn't it be गुरुवाय instead of गुरुवे ?
Also, the translation doesn't look perfect to me, conveying only the crude meaning.

And तस्मै is translated to "that". So shouldn't the translation be "salutations to that adorable guru"?
गुरुः is subjective case ekavachanam. गुरवे is dative ekavachanam. गुरवः is dative bahuvachanam and गुरुभ्यः is dative bahuvachanam. In some places you see गुरुभ्यो नमः in those places it is due to Visarga Sandhi गुरुभ्यः has become गुरुभ्यो.

ReplyDeleteIs गुरूः an exception? The table of dative case which we study is रामाय, रामाभ्याम्, रामेभ्यः।
No word called गुरूः it is गुरू (dvivachanam in subjective case) - in dative case it is गुरुभ्याम् ।
